What is APART FROM ME?
Burnout doesn’t come from working hard.
It comes from working as if you’re the source.
INTRODUCTION
THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER YOUR WORKLOAD. IT WAS YOUR SOURCE.

There was a moment when I seriously questioned whether my life had any value left.
It happened on a quiet evening while I stood alone on the balcony of a modest apartment in San Antonio, Texas. From the outside, nothing about that moment looked unusual. It was peaceful, ordinary, and yet inside my mind, something had begun to fracture.
For weeks, my thoughts had been running like an engine that refused to shut down: numbers, conversations, debts, possibilities, fears. Every attempt to fix the situation seemed to reveal another problem waiting behind it. Sleep had become unreliable. Even when exhaustion finally forced me into bed, I would often wake up in the middle of the night already calculating problems before I was fully conscious. How many weeks before the money runs out? How long before clients disappear completely? How long before everyone realizes you are no longer the person they thought you were?
The strange thing about that level of exhaustion is how it changes your thinking. Thoughts that would normally be dismissed start sounding calm, logical, even reasonable. That evening, standing on that balcony, one thought crossed my mind that had never shown up before: If you jump now, all your problems vanish.
That thought scared me, not because I wanted it, but because it made sense.
One night, something finally cracked. I opened the door to my apartment, collapsed on the floor, and said the truest thing I’d said in months: I am not okay. God, I need You.
There was no spectacle, no magical light filled the room, yet the moment I surrendered, the fog began to lift. I didn’t understand it fully then, but I know now that I had confronted something deeper than stress, debt, or pressure. I had been living as if everything depended on me. I had been building, leading, solving, pushing, and carrying as if I were the source. I wasn’t, and that was the problem. This is the problem for far more leaders than we want to admit.
The world is loud about leadership right now. Everywhere you turn, the message is the same: do more, scale faster, optimize harder, control better. Some of that may help for a season, but here is the quiet truth most leaders won’t say out loud:
For a long time, I thought the issue was burnout. I thought maybe I was simply exhausted, overloaded, in need of more rest, better systems, or a smarter plan. The problem, however, was deeper than that. I was addicted to keeping the success momentum going. I had grown used to movement, progress, validation, and results. Somewhere along the way, productivity stopped being something I did and started becoming something I needed. When momentum becomes your oxygen, slowing down starts to feel like dying.
What many leaders call burnout is often something more dangerous: misalignment. You can be physically exhausted and still have real life in you. You can also stay productive, sharp, and outwardly composed while being driven by fear, pressure, and the need to prove you still have what it takes. That kind of leadership may produce results for a while, but it comes at a cost. It drains joy. It distorts peace. It turns calling into pressure and stewardship into control, which is why this book is not about working less. Instead, it’s about living and leading from the right source.
Over the last twenty-five years, I’ve sat with leaders who run multi-million-dollar companies and leaders who are barely making payroll. I’ve worked with CEOs who look bulletproof on the outside but confess in private, “I don’t know how much longer I can do this.” I’ve also seen what happens when alignment returns, when leaders stop pretending and start surrendering.
Most leadership advice will tell you to do more. This book says something different: You don’t need to do more. You need to abide more. The problem isn’t your workload. It’s your power source.
Pressure may still exist, and responsibility does not disappear, but leadership becomes sustainable because you are no longer asking your own strength to do what only God can sustain.
I wrote this for leaders who love God, but somewhere along the way became addicted to keeping success momentum alive and quietly made performance their functional savior. This book is for the leader who looks successful on the outside but feels empty on the inside. The one who built something meaningful but lost something in the process. The one who still believes in God but has been asking Him to bless what was already decided instead of walking with Him in real time.
If leadership feels heavier than it used to, if rest doesn’t seem to work anymore, or if success has not delivered the deep satisfaction you expected, please hear this: You are not broken and you’re not failing, but you may be carrying something you were never meant to carry.
This book won’t give you a new productivity system. It won’t teach you how to delegate better or scale faster. It will show you something deeper:
How to lead from a different power source.
How to build with God instead of asking Him to bless what you’ve already decided.
How to carry responsibility without carrying the weight alone.
Surrender is not weakness. It is the only way to lead without losing your soul.
